Sugar Addiction is a SERIOUS
Eating Disorder
Sugar addiction has been dubbed by UK
researchers as possibly the
greatest single health threat to the citizens of
the United Kingdom. So prevalent is the problem that
many nutritionists, physicians and health
researchers within the UK are confidently predicting
that sugar addiction will soon surpass cigarette
smoking as the number one addictive pastime.
In the U.S.A., the average annual consumption of sugar
per capita has swelled from 30 pounds in the mid
1930s to over 160 pounds in 2008 – this
included sugar byproducts and processed grain
products as well. Regardless of how you calculate,
that is a lot of sugar!
Excessive sugar
consumption is a global problem
The September 2008 edition of the U.S.D.A.
publication, Amber Waves, reported that the
excessive consumption of high calorie
food items, such as processed sugar and starch
products, is not a purely American phenomenon.
Apparently, a steady increase worldwide in
the per-capita
consumption of high-calorie
foods and beverages has been noted from year
to year,
across the board, throughout all socioeconomic
strata, in industrialized and developing nations
alike.
